Originally produced in 1978, Air Tailwind is known as Nike's first shoe to incorporate their propriety cushioning technology, Nike Air, which conceived by aerospace engineer Frank Rudy and developed from 1977. The effort were repaid by the success of the first shoe to feature cushioning system.
In 2012, Nike brings back the legendary shoe. The 2012 retro of Nike Air Tailwind comes with a card explaining the technology and details featured on the shoe like Non-stretch Mesh Upper, Extended Heel Counter, Air Sole, Solid Rubber Waffle Outsole. The 2012 retro comes with its OG colorway, Metallic Silver / Blue Spark and a distressed sole.
