Whiteboard Journal interviews Mr. Kenya Hara

Have you checked out Whiteboard Journal's latest Roundtable? If you haven't, then you should. Because for this volume 17 of Roundtable, Mr. Leo had a chance to talk with the man behind lifestyle brand, MUJI, Mr. Kenya Hara. He was in Jakarta for Design ID Convention. Check out the video below.

Other than in charge as the Art Director of MUJI, He's also known for his works with Kenzo, and for Beijing Summer Olympics and Nagano Winter Olympics among others. Here are some examples of his works.

Hollis Brown Thornton Mixed Media Illustrations

Meet Hollis Brown Thornton, the man who came up with these beautiful mixed media illustrations. His work ranges from acrylic paintings to marker drawings of wallpaper, VHS tapes, erased faces and outdated media, which all play a key role in 'uniting the fleeting present to a lingering past'. Cool.

Coca Cola x PLAY Comme des Garcons Concept

An interesting concept has surfaced this week. A prospective packaging design created by a Parsons design student, Ashley Shen, of a limited edition collaboration project between Coca Cola with one of Comme des Garcons's line, PLAY. There are no official word from both Coca Cola or Comme des Garcons PLAY (Do they even know about this design concept?) about whether this project will come true or not, but, just like everybody else, i also wish that this will come true in the near future.

Polygon Heroes

Polygon Heroes is a unofficial fan art illustration made by TheBlackeningCo which features several well known American superhero like Superman, Batman, Captain America, Wonder Woman, Flash, Turtles (The gang is complete, Leonardo, Rafael, Michaelangelo, Donatello).

Absolut Purity Campaign

Every year, Absolut choose an artist to achieve a work on the theme of purity. After Dan Tobin Smith and Riton Paul Graves in 2009 and in 2010, now is the German artist Simon Schubert that shares his vision. He came up by making a display only through folds and shadows and light. This poster was placed in a bus shelter Avenue de l'Opera. The structure, including the lighting was entirely designed by the artist, allows optimum viewing of the work. This campaign was conducted by the agency Being.

50 and 50 Project - The State Mottos

50 and 50 is a curated project which attempts to construct a handsome new way of looking at the United States of America. 50 designers (one per state) have illustrated their state motto, creating something steeped in history but completely modern and unique : A Kind of Designer's Atlas.

Former Cement Factory - Now : Workspace and Residence of Ricardo Bofill

Have you ever imagined a former Cement Factory can turned into a beautiful-super cool workspace and even a place to live in? Well i never did, but then i saw this interesting article on Yatzer. Yep, A Real former Cement Factory is now the workspace and residence of Ricardo Bofill. Mr. Architect himself, Ricardo Bofill bought this Old cement Factory which discovered in 1973, abandoned and partially ruined.

"Bofill imagined the future spaces and created a layout according to the different aesthetic and plastic predispositions that had developed since WWI and were present within the factory. A compendium of surrealist elements; paradoxical stairs that climbed to nowhere, the absurdity of certain elements that hung over voids, compelling but useless spaces of strange proportion but magical because of their tension and disproportion. Elements of abstraction; pure volumes which reveal themselves at times broken and impure as well as elements of brutalism; abrupt treatment and sculptural qualities of the materials. Being seduced by the elements of contradiction and the vagueness of the space he decided to preserve the factory and modify the original brutality (due to the coarse of nature and the former program), and sculpt it like a work of art. All these magical elements stand in the midst of transformed gardens which were once the yard of a cement factory."

Ricardo Bofill currently lives and works in The Cement Factory better than anywhere else, it is the only place where he can concentrate, associate ideas in the most abstract manner, and finally creates projects, and constitutes a specific vocabulary for his architecture.

Art of the Title is a compendium and leading web resource of film and television title design from around the world. They developed the website to honor the artists who designed excellent title sequences.

Here below we have the "Art of the Title" short movie, originally made by Ian Abison for the opening of SXSW "Excellence in Title Design" competition screening. This video is amazing, compiling some of the best movie openings into 1 video. You can see opening title from Pink Panther, Machete, Catch Me if You Can, Phantom of the Opera, Classic Charlie Chaplin, Dr. Strangelove, 007(s), Mean Streets, Raging Bull, and so much more. This video will make you appreciate more about movies even more.

Ken Kagami - Exhibition - Toys"A"Ss

This is pretty absurd, violent and disturbing. An exhibition by Japanese artist, Ken Kagami, named TOYS "A" SS. It features some sculptures of weird things you can't even imagined. Using some wasted stuffs like old dolls, broken phone, play house, etc, Ken Kagami creates such remarkable violent and extreme expressions. But, like Public-Image said, "For some reason you get into it".
